  • Failed Sealed Units

When double glazed sealed units break down the windows soon begin to look awful and have a negative affect on the overall look of your property.

This is NOT ONLY a visual issue -

failed units NO LONGER function thermally or as effective sound barriers.

Yes you have double glazing - BUT IT'S NOT WORKING !

Simply Re-Glaze the existing frame with a high quality replacement double glazed unit.

The Causes

Double glazed units are bonded togerther with a flexible sealant which is designed to prevent water entering the cavity between the panes of glass. This sealant has a limited lifespan normally dependent upon the quality of the sealant product used. Expansion and contraction of the glass units caused by barometric pressure causes the sealant to be stretched until eventually cracks appear which allow moisture to enter the cavity.

The first sign of problems may be just a small amount of misting in certain weather conditions but this will develop further with the window becoming impossible to see through.

Poor quality manufacturing with the use of inferior edge sealant products will accelerate the failure process as well as both the use of incorrect installation packing products and incorrect, insuffucient or blocked frame drainagage channels.

The Solution

The only answer is to install a replacement double glazed unit. This will cause no alteration or disruption to the frame they are located within. However the replacement unit should be manufactured to the much coveted Kitemark standard, rigourously tested to provide optimium sealant performance and the installation should always be carried out by an experienced trained installer in accordance with the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) Glazing Manual.
